Lowton: I Already Feel At Home

2 July 2015

Matt Lowton checks in with after the Clarets returned for their first full training session.

Matt Lowton says he already feels right at home at Turf Moor after tasting his first full training session and is relishing getting into pre-season.

The former Aston Villa man has had chance to meet up with his new Clarets teammates over the last couple of days at the club’s Gawthorpe training ground.

And the full-back says the transition into his new surroundings has been made easy by the positive mentality and team spirit around the camp.

He said: “I’m delighted to be here and I’ve had a really enjoyable couple of days. The summer always seems to go quite quick but it’s good to get back and be touching a football again.

“I’m looking forward to getting to the nitty-gritty part of it.

“The lads have been absolutely fantastic and they welcomed me straight away when I walked through the door, introduced themselves and told me where things are.

“They’re a great set of lads and there is a great atmosphere around the place.”

Lowton saw the relentless nature of his new squad on the final day of the 2014/15 season when despite being already relegated, Sean Dyche’s men beat his former employers 0-1 at Villa Park.

That level of commitment has become synonymous with the Clarets and ahead of the Sky Bet Championship season, the 26-year-old is looking forward to being a part of the mentality that he has long since admired.

He added: “When they played against Villa on the last day unfortunately we were already relegated but it showed the effort that they put in here for the manager, for each other and the fans.

“It just showed the commitment and I’m looking forward to slotting in and showing my commitment as well.

“The running is tough during pre-season, but the quality was also on show in a little possession game towards the end.

“I’m looking forward to France next week as we’ll be in a hotel where it is just us and I can bed in even further.”
