Jelle Set For Debut

17 July 2015

Clarets' new number 'nine-and-a-half' Vossen is raring to go

New signing Jelle Vossen is relishing showing the Clarets fans what he’s capable of, ahead of Saturday’s friendly at Accrington Stanley.

The Belgian international striker signed a three-year deal at Turf Moor during last week's pre-season trip to Evian.

Vossen, 26, has finally received international clearance and is free to make his unofficial debut this weekend as the club awaits final ratification from the FA and Football League.

And having had chance to get acquainted with his new teammates in Southern France, the former RC Genk man is raring to go.

Vossen told Clarets Player HD: “It’s a nice step for me to take in my career.

“I spent last season in the Championship with Middlesbrough so I got to know the league.

“This is the next step in my career and I have feel I have the same ambitions as the club so that’s a good fit and I can’t wait to get the season started.

“Everybody knows this club and for me it was very important to know the ideas of the manager and the club.

“They share my ambitions and that is to get up to the Premier League as fast as possible. You can see it here that everyone wants to get back to the Premier League but we have to take it step by step.”

A prolific goalscoring record in his homeland alerted a number of clubs around Europe to his services after his loan spell at Middlesbrough ended.

But having opted for another stint in the Sky Bet Championship with the Clarets, Vossen explained what fans can expect to see from him in the upcoming campaign.

He added: “I am probably a (number) nine and a half. I’m not a deep striker or the number 10; it’s something in between.

“I love to play behind the striker, to move a lot and score some goals as well.

“I don’t want to be compared with any other player. I just want to do my thing and I don’t think it’s good to be compared with Danny Ings.

“We both have our own qualities and I’m looking forward to showing what I’ve got and being a big part of this team.”
