Sean Dyche insists the club’s pre-season camp in Evian will only intensify as the week goes on after the players first football session earlier today.
The Clarets were put through their paces in the heat as internationals Sam Vokes, Stephen Ward and Tom Heaton re-joined the group.
And as well as setting out his plans for the week ahead, the boss also explained why Evian was the chosen destination for their pre-season plans.
Dyche said: “We’ve tried to freshen it up really instead of going to the same place year on year.
“We’ve had a couple of good tours since I’ve been at the club and we felt this was a very good place.
“I came over here with John Banaszkiewicz, who showed me a few different places and we assessed what we could do with the squad.
“The hotel is very good and the training pitches are very good as well so our first impressions are excellent if I’m honest.”
The week of training culminates in a friendly with Etoile Carouge on Friday and Dyche, who has full complement of players at the camp, believes it is important that he lays down what is expected of everyone early on.
“That’s the first session this morning and we’ll have a lighter session later on today.
“We’ve given them a bit of down time this afternoon because while it can get hot at the start of the season in England, it was quite extreme today.
“We’ll build it up gradually but it’s certainly very nice surroundings and the temperature is set to drop a little tomorrow so the players work level will be increasing.
“It’s important we lay down the thinking to everyone including the staff because I want them to be motivated and them to know my expectations of what they can deliver.
“It is that sort of alignment if you like. I use that word a lot because I think it’s important that all minds have clarity for the same vision of what we want to achieve and it’s a good time for that.”
