New signing Tendayi Darikwa says the club’s vision ensured it was an easy decision to ignore other offers and sign for the Clarets.
Darikwa became the fourth summer signing at Turf Moor after putting pen-to-paper on a three-year deal, with a further year’s option in the club’s favour, last night despite attracting interest from a host of clubs.
And the former Chesterfield full-back, who won the club’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year last season, can’t wait to pick up where he left off and help Burnley get back into the Premier League.
“I played the game against Burnley at the weekend and didn't really know of their interest until my agent mentioned it.
“There were other options for me and I did have to weigh up my options, but as soon Burnley came forward and made it clear what their plans were, moving forwards as a football club, it was a pretty easy decision and I made the right choice.
“This is a great opportunity to play for a massive football club and hopefully I can play some part in helping them get back to where they were last year.
“I know from seeing them last week what they are about. I know they have lost a few players this summer, but the rest of the squad played in the Premier League last season and my aim is to come in and help as much as I can.”
Darikwa made 150 appearances for the Spireites having progressed through their youth ranks, and he explained what kind of player Clarets fans can expect to see, as well as placing his thanks to his former employers on record.
“I base my game very much on my fitness levels and I like to attack and get forward, but first and foremost I am a defender. That's my job and the aim is to try and improve the team if I get the chance.
“Chesterfield Football Club has been the best part of my life since I joined them at 16 and everything that has happened to me is a testament to the club.
“I am grateful for the opportunity they gave me and thankful they have given me the chance to join Burnley Football Club.”
