The U21 Development Squad scored three goals in a dramatic last five minutes to draw 4-4 at Brunton Park against Carlisle United.
Two goals each from Cameron Howieson and Ntumba Massanka helped the youngsters to a draw in tough conditions after defeat seemed inevitable.
The U21 Development Squad were in fine form going into the fixture, with eight wins from their last 10 games.
And Burnley had a golden chance to take the lead in the first minute when Jason Gilchrist was through on goal.
The striker’s angle was quickly narrowed as Carlisle’s goalkeeper was quickly off his line to half-clear and the ball fell to Jamie Frost who dinked wide of a gaping goal.
The Clarets struggled to handle 6ft 6” striker Mark Beck, who proved to be a handful, scoring the opening two goals for the Cumbrians with headers.
His first came in the seventh minute when a deep ball was delivered into the mixer and the forward neatly nodded in the opener.
Beck’s second soon came from a corner, outleaping the Clarets defence before finding the back of the net.
Burnley finally settled into the game and Howieson reduced the deficit with a fantastic curling free-kick from the edge of the box 34 minutes in, as the visitors controlled the rest of the half.
However, two wonderful low strikes in quick succession after the restart put the Blues 4-1 ahead and the Clarets found themselves with a mountain to climb.
They set about their task however and Howieson nearly bagged his second, striking the post after some neat trickery in the box.
With just five minutes left on the clock, Burnley scored what might have been a consolation, as Howieson converted from the spot.
But straight from the restart Burnley smelt blood and Howieson burst past the Carlisle defence before finding second half substitute Massanka at the far post, who couldn’t miss.
And the Clarets completed a remarkable comeback a minute later as Howieson and Massanka combined yet again and the youth team striker made no mistake, tapping in the equaliser for Burnley’s third in as many minutes.
