The youth team fought back from two goals down to secure a point in a 2-2 draw against Port Vale.
The Clarets hosted Vale at Manchester City’s Carrington Training ground on Monday afternoon, in a re-arranged North West Youth Alliance fixture.
Burnley went into the break two goals down, but two second half goals from Christian Hill and Andy Nugent meant that the spoils were shared.
The Valiants took an early lead just six minutes in. The winger picked up the ball on the touchline before cutting inside and firing past Tony Aghayere from an acute angle with the help of the crossbar.
13 minutes later the advantage was doubled. Defender Shaun Hobson was caught between two minds before slipping on the ball, allowing Vale’s forward to slot past Aghayere one-on-one.
It took half an hour for Burnley to have an effort on goal. Two tame strikes from Josh Dolling and Khius Metz were comfortably dealt with, before the youngsters faced some stern words from at half time.
There was an instant reaction in the second half. Six minutes after the restart the Clarets pulled a goal back as winger Hill weaved past midfielders on the edge of the box, before stabbing his shot into the top corner.
A quarter of an hour later and the Clarets drew level. Full-back Nugent burst forward before unleashing a strike from range which took a big deflection, steering the ball past the hapless keeper to set up an interesting last 25-minutes.
The Clarets continued to press forward in search of a winner. That nearly came with a dangerous ball across the goal line that desperately awaited a touch to put Burnley ahead, but the ball fizzed out to safety.
Burnley had a shout for a late penalty turned down. Moments after coming on, Jamal Crawford was brought down in the area, for the referee to wave play on, despite of all the appeals.
The Clarets face Tranmere Rovers in their next fixture on Saturday (11am kick-off) in the North West Youth Alliance league.
