Mabey Bridge Provide New Gateway To Gawthorpe

6 August 2015

Burnley Football Club now has a new gateway to the proposed Gawthorpe training complex, thanks to Mabey Bridge.

The contractors have installed a refurbished Compact 200 Bridge where the old Bailey Bridge stood across the River Calder.

The old bridge had been in situ on the site since the 1950s and was badly in need of refurbishment.

The newly-installed bridge will now provide vehicular and pedestrian access to the club’s new training facility, which comprises additional football pitches and an indoor facility to meet the requirements of the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP).

Mabey Bridge, based in Lydney, Gloucestershire, has been designing and building bridges since 1923, installing them in over 140 countries worldwide.

Mabey Bridge designed the Compact 200 to replace the Bailey bridge using a modular bridging system that is interchangeable with existing Bailey Bridge components and uses existing foundations.

Commenting on the replacement programme, Dr Paul Smith, CEO at Mabey Bridge said, “We are excited and proud to be playing a part in this community project.

“As they were originally designed for military use, Bailey Bridges are very durable and robust.

“But many, such as the one at Burnley, are coming to the end of their working lives.
“The C200 modular bridge was designed as a direct replacement for these bridges and, due to the popularity of the original Bailey Bridge, we now have several more replacement projects planned both in the UK and overseas.”
