Burnley 1-0 Brentford

Burnley 1-0 Brentford

The Clarets recorded their first win of the season as they overcame Brentford in a tight contest at Turf Moor.

Michael Keane scored the only goal of the match, putting the Clarets in the lead for the first time this season.

The only change from last time out against Ipswich Town saw new signing Rouwen Hennings make his first start on his home debut for the Clarets, replacing Jelle Vossen to partner Lukas Jutkiewicz in attack.

And Burnley’s early pressure almost gifted themselves an opener in the second minute. Lukas Jutkiewicz closed down James Tarkowski and found himself in a golden position in the box, but his attempted cut back to Hennings was well cleared.

A quarter of an hour in the visitors had their first chance from a free-kick. Former Blackburn man Alan Judge stepped up and his well-struck effort forced a fine save out of Tom Heaton, low to his left.

The visitors then had another chance to open the scoring, but Lasse Vibe's touch let him down. The Danish forward was sent racing through on goal but after miscuing, he could only produce a tame shot at Heaton.

But it was the Clarets who took the lead midway through the half.

The best move of the half resulted in a Burnley corner which was duly swung in by David Jones and Keane was the man at the far post, neatly nodding in his second Turf Moor goal in as many games.

And the Clarets almost doubled their advantage 10 minutes later when the ball fell at the edge of the box, but Scott Arfield lashed his strike way over the crossbar.

10 minutes into the second half Arfield had another strike on goal, this time from 35-yards. Button’s poor clearance out of position gave the Scotsman half a chance with the ambitious strike just flying past the post.

And with 20 minutes to play the Clarets almost put the game to bed. Tendayi Darikwa’s quick throw-in was well dummied by Michael Kightly to set up the freshly introduced Sam Vokes, but the forward’s strike shaved the crossbar.

Moments after his introduction, midfielder Matt Taylor had free-kick in a position almost identical to his wonder goal against Birmingham. His effort was this time low and inches away from Burnley’s second.
