The former Manchester City, Newcastle United and QPR midfielder has penned a one-year deal with the Clarets after becoming a free agent at the end of his deal at Loftus Road.
And Barton, 32, had no hesitation in agreeing to work under Clarets boss Dyche, who he described as “the most impressive guy I have sat in front of for a long, long period of time.”

Barton told Clarets Player HD: “I thought a while ago that if an opportunity came up, there are certain football clubs that you would like the chance to join, or certain managers you would like to play for. Sean was on that list.
“There were a lot of suitors, a few in the league above and a few abroad and lots of different financial incentives, but I wanted to play football and I want to play in a place where there is real progress being made.
“I want to play for a manager who I really, really believe in and with a group of men that have got what it takes to consolidate in the league above.
“I am just happy that they think the same and that I can help this group and I’m really humbled and proud to be here and can’t wait to get cracking.”
Dyche sealed the deal for Barton after cooking the player lunch on Wednesday afternoon!
But the signing was the culmination of a chase that began much earlier in the summer, after his QPR exit was confirmed.
Barton explained: “We spoke on the phone a number of weeks ago and I knew instantly that Sean was someone I liked.
“I’ve watched Burnley for a number of years, most recently because we’ve been in direct competition with each other.
“I’ve admired the job that Sean has done here and, as a football club, how they have presented themselves, but also as a fantastic group of players.
“I was holding out for a Premier League opportunity because that is the greatest league in the world and I got far down the line with a Premier League team, but the minute that didn’t go in the right direction I spoke again to the manager.
“We met again yesterday and he cooked me lunch and spoke about football.
“It was the first time we’d sat and spoken face to face at length and I walked out of the house, got on the phone and said I want to play for this guy and Burnley. It was as straightforward as that.
“He is the most impressive guy I have sat in front of for a long, long period of time.”
Barton, who is immediately eligible to play for the Clarets, added: “I think this is a football club that, in many ways, will allow me to showcase what I am about as a player and as a person and I think it’s a group of people on and off the pitch that is primed for success.
“To help the club be a part of that and get back to the Premier League would be a really good achievement for me personally and something I’d love to be a part of.”
