Dyche Previews Sunderland Clash

20 September 2014

All you need to know ahead of the visit of Sunderland

Sean Dyche believes the way in which his side work will stand them in good stead ahead of the visit of Sunderland.

A win has eluded the Clarets so far this season, but successive clean sheets in the Premier League against Crystal Palace last weekend and in the hard-earned point at Manchester United last time out at Turf Moor has provided an excellent platform to work from.

And while reiterating that there are no guarantees in the Premier League, Dyche insists that if they continue in the same manner, a victory will not be far away.

Dyche said: “We delivered well in the past two games with two clean sheets and that’s not easy in the Premier League.

“Overall, I’m certainly content with the level of performance but I’m not content with the outcomes because I’m greedy and I want wins.

“We have a real confidence about the way in which we work but you can’t walk into a Premier League season and think you’re going to roll everyone over.

“You have to be realistic with what the challenges are and certainly two of those so far were your market leaders.

“In the other games against Swansea and Palace you’d probably look at those and say they’re sides looking to grow for different reasons.

“I think they’re kind of ones that give us a balance of where we’re really at and the challenges that are really in front of us.

Sunderland go into the game one point and three places above the Clarets after bouncing back from a 1-0 defeat to QPR to get a point against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

Gus Poyet will be challenging his side to build on that positive result last time out and while Dyche is more than wary of the threat the Black Cats pose, he says his side will be fully focused on what they are trying to achieve.

He added: “Gus did a great job last year of keeping them in the Barclays Premier League but it’s important we focus on us.

“We have to be aware of the threat they pose of course but I think they’ll be different over time as Gus moulds them to how he wants.

“It’s another challenge and they’re a very experienced group and that can add a different feel to a game.

“But we’ve got to focus on what we’re doing and what we’re trying to achieve. We’ll certainly be doing that.”

We have now launched a new game zone for young Clarets in the Family Stand and this will be open for the first time against Sunderland.

This new pre-match facility offers young Clarets fans (ages 5-16 years old) the chance to come and spend some time playing their friends on FIFA 14, on our brand new PS4 and Xbox One consoles, before going out into the stands to watch the real thing.

Also in the new Game Zone is a table football game, and Bertie Bee is scheduled to make an appearance around 2:15pm.

The Game Zone, open from 1:45pm until ten minutes before kick-off, is for our young Clarets only and will be manned by two members of the Burnley FC in the Community staff.
