13 October 2014

Stephen Ward played 70 minutes of Republic of Ireland’s 7-0 demolition of Gibraltar in their Euro 2016 qualifier in Dublin.

Robbie Keane’s hat-trick inside 20 minutes was added to by a James McClean double-salvo, an own goal and Wes Hoolahan’s 56th minute strike completed the rout.

Ireland have now taken maximum points from their opening two games and sit second, behind Poland on goal difference in Group D.

Elsewhere in Group D, goalkeeper Matt Gilks was an unused substitute as Scotland kick-started their qualifying campaign with a 1-0 victory over Georgia at Ibrox.

Defender Michael Keane played 45 minutes for England U21s on Friday as Gareth Southgate’s side secured a 2-1 victory over Croatia in the first leg of their U21 championship play-off at Molinuex.

Goals from Saido Berahino and Harry Kane means that England will take a narrow lead to Croatia on Tuesday evening.

Young goalkeeper Conor Mitchell completed the full 90 minutes for Northern Ireland U19s but was unable to prevent a 5-2 defeat to Russia U19s.

Mitchell is likely to be in action again tomorrow afternoon as they take on the Faroe Islands at The Oval in Belfast.
