George Boyd has highlighted the importance of a good team spirit as Burnley continue their search for the first Premier League win of the season.
The Clarets travel to fellow newly-promoted side Leicester City on Saturday afternoon, looking to get their performance level back on track following a disappointing defeat away to West Bromwich Albion last weekend.
Burnley suffered their first defeat in four games at the Hawthorns, but Boyd is convinced the team have now put that result behind them and will soon find goals and start picking up wins in the top-flight.
Boyd said: “I think Sunday was a one-off. We were well below par, I think everyone on the pitch was. That wasn’t us physically.
“It was nowhere near it and at this level if you are 10% off it you are going to get punished.
“We put it down as a blip because apart from Sunday our performances have been good.
“We’re creating chances and I think we had 18 attempts on goal against Sunderland.
“The chances are there. We’re not struggling to create and I’m in no doubt that goals will eventually come.
“You can’t play well in every game and we need to get our work ethic back and work hard for each other and I’m sure we will on Saturday.”
Having now spent a full month at the club following his deadline day move from Hull City, the versatile midfielder believes he has seen enough to suggest Burnley have what it takes to compete among the best.
Indeed, he has already managed to find similarities between the Clarets and his former club who enjoyed a successful season back in the Premier League last term.
Boyd added: “I’m loving it. I’ve settled in really quickly. There’s a great team spirit here.
“The boys have been great and have made me feel really welcome. I’m loving the training and it’s nice to be playing week in, week out.
“There’s a great togetherness here. Everyone’s been stopping me for chats and made me feel welcome straight away, so it’s been really good.
“It’s very similar to last year with Hull. We had a great team spirit there and that alone will get you several points a season!
“It’s important that we stick together as a group. As long as we do it, the goals and wins will come and we’ll be fine.”
