Sam Vokes was named as Burnley Football Club’s ‘Player of the Year’ to round off a remarkable season for the Welsh striker.

Vokes, who scored a career-best 21 goals, pipped strike partner Danny Ings and defender Kieran Trippier to the main award following the biggest ever response to voting on the official website.

And in a role reversal, it was a one-two for the prolific strike pairing as Ings was named as the ‘Players’ Player of the Year’ by the Clarets squad, just edging out Vokes and Scott Arfield.

England U21 ace Ings also accepted the ‘Top Goalscorer’ award after grabbing 26 goals in a magnificent season for the Clarets.

The other main award went to Ashley Barnes for ‘Goal of the Season’, following his stunning strike against Wigan Athletic in the 2-0 victory at Turf Moor that secured promotion.

And at the glittering ceremony at Turf Moor, there was a standing ovation for a special ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ for Sean Dyche, his backroom team and the players, following their spectacular promotion-winning season.

Over 500 supporters crammed into the James Hargreaves Stand also witnessed ‘Sterling Service Awards’ for long-serving Director Clive Holt, who joined the Board of Directors in 1986, and defender Michael Duff, who has spent 10 years at Turf Moor in a remarkable career.

Finally, the annual Merit Awards were this year handed out to five players who achieved milestone appearances during the 2013/14 campaign.

Kieran Trippier, David Edgar, Sam Vokes and Junior Stanislas all made their 100th appearances during the promotion-winning campaign, and Michael Duff joined an elite club by completing 300 appearances.
