1914 Centenary Exhibition Ends Thursday

30 May 2014

Your chance to re-live history

Burnley Football Club's hugely popular 1914 exhibition at Towneley Hall has become one of the most popular ever in terms of visitor numbers.

And you still have time to visit this stunning exhibition which, following discussions between the club and Towneley Hall and with the kind agreement of everyone who loaned their treasures, remains open until June 5.

Fans and members are reminded that the opening hours for the exhibition are Saturday to Thursday, midday - 5pm (closed Fridays). The exhibition is closed on Saturday, May 31.

Entry is free to residents with in the Burnley postcode and to Burnley FC season ticket holders. General admission is £4.

The exhibition at Towneley Hall hosts a historic gathering of artefacts and memorabilia relating to the famous victory over Liverpool at the Crystal Palace grounds, in the first ever FA Cup final to be attended by a reigning monarch.

The club already owns, or has on long-term loan, a number of items, souvenir publications, documents and photographs relating to the Cup final success.

And, for the first time, a very important piece of the club’s history and heritage, recently acquired by the club, is on public display

The actual shirt worn by centre forward and scorer of the winning goal in the 1914 FA Cup final, Bert Freeman, was recently purchased at auction by Clarets’ co-chairman, Mr Mike Garlick (pictured).

This famous shirt will form the centrepiece of our exhibition, together with Freeman’s winners’ medal (also owned by Burnley FC, jointly with Colne Clarets).

The 1914 exhibition, to be staged in the Long Gallery at Burnley’s famous Towneley Hall, isopen to the general public until June 5.

Admission is free to all Burnley residents and season ticket holders, or £4 for general admission (adults and senior citizens), free for students (with proof) and U16s.

*Please note. Unfortunately there is no lift access to the Long Gallery.
