Sean Dyche has revealed his Burnley squad are still improving physically as the end of season run-in draws nearer.
Saturday’s clash with Leicester will be the Clarets’ 44th game of the 2013/14 campaign and, with fatigue possibly becoming an issue during Burnley’s crucial run in, Dyche’s men are still going strong having collected maximum points in all but one of March’s fixtures.
And the Clarets’ boss believes the treatment the squad receives from support staff and himself ensures Burnley’s current crop are getting fitter and sharper as the season goes on.
He said: “I told the players in pre season you’ll be in great shape all season, make no mistake about it!
“Our stats were through the roof again physically on Tuesday.
“The players look fitter and sharper and that is only improving as we go on.
“I believe in the way we work and that’s not just me but my support staff too.
“I believe in the way we treat the players and I believe in their mentality.
“That has helped us to play well as a unit, as individuals and to win games.
“It’s time for us to keep going strong, we’ve certainly shown great signs of that.
“That’s our thoughts really. We keep going strong no matter what challenges come our way.”
Victory by more than one goal at Turf Moor tomorrow will see the Burnley top the Championship for the first time since Christmas.
And while Dyche acknowledges the Clarets’ have achieved some impressive results in recent fixtures, the Kettering-born manager is as concentrated as always on treating the tie as any other game.
He added: “It’s a big game, but in reality it’s just another three points and that is exactly what we are aiming for.
“Football owes you nothing.
“We’re in a nice, rich vein of form at the moment and are putting points on the table with good performances.
“Now we have to go and do that again, anything beyond that takes care of itself.
“We’ve had many big games this season and Leicester are going along nicely, as are we, so it makes for a good occasion.
“They have got some tough games coming up, starting with us, but we know what shape we’re in and we won’t go far from remembering what we’re about and the strong work ethic we have.
“We have our own designs on what we can achieve and the main thing is to stick with our one game at a time mantra.
“As each game comes round you have to be ready physically, mentally, tactically and ready to show your steel!”
The Burnley boss also took a moment to give supporters an update on the club’s current injury situation.
Dyche revealed: “We think our injuries are going to be back sooner rather than later.
“Tripps is touch and go. I don’t think it would be wise to use him for this one but we will see.
“He’s training and building up again at the moment.
“After Leicester we have got a weeks rest, or midweek break if you like, with no game next Tuesday and it is important we use that time wisely.
“Danny Ings is also making really good progress, we’re really happy with that at the moment.”
