Do something amazing with Burnley FC

17 March 2014

Do Something amazing with Burnley FC in the Community.

Burnley FC in the Community is off on an African Adventure and we need YOU!

Burnley FC in the Community (Registered Charity No; 1155856) have teamed up with African Adventures to offer supporters the opportunity of a lifetime in Ghana, West Africa this October. We need volunteers to join us and be part of this amazing opportunity.

From 26th October 2014, the Burnley team will spend 7 days working in schools in Woe, a rural, coastal area of South Eastern Ghana.

The trip aims to raise funds for Burnley FC in the Community, whilst supporting African Adventures’ partner projects in Ghana and providing supporters with a life-changing experience.

The money raised will be split 50/50, 50% of money raised will be used to support Burnley FC in the Community to provide a programme of activities which will cater for people with physical and learning disabilities. The remaining 50% will be used to create a charity fund which will be distributed amongst up to 10 charities across Burnley and the surrounding areas.

African Adventures, www.african-adventures.co.uk, works with community projects in developing areas of Africa.

Volunteers can choose how they help, with project roles ranging from teaching in schools and working with underprivileged children, to football and multi-sports training.

The trip will support African Adventures’ Community Development Pledge, which provides resources and micro-finance to all projects it supports. Volunteers of all ages welcome but under 16’s must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. There is no upper age limit.

There will also be an adventure weekend with a visit to Cape Coast and Kakum national rainforest, which will be included at the end of this unique experience.  After the hard work each day, the accommodation is minutes from the untouched beaches.

Neil Hart, Head of Community at Burnley FC in the Community, is eager for supporters to enjoy this opportunity and said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to not only make a real difference to lives of children and communities in Africa but also to raise much needed funds for charitable work in Burnley and surrounding areas – a truly once in a lifetime experience.

I can assure each individual taking part that we will support you through every step of this journey – this is your chance to do something truly amazing".

Dan Mew, UK Development Manager at African Adventures, said, “We are delighted to be working with Burnley FC in the Community. Volunteers on this trip will help support our Community Development Pledge, where we have committed to providing schools and youth centres across Ghana with teaching, coaching and community support, as well as development assistance.

In Ghana, the needs of the community are particularly pressing and we are truly grateful to the club. Additionally, we are excited at the prospect of supporting Burnley FC in the Community and their vital work in the Burnley area. Most of all, fans and staff will have a life changing experience and by the end of the trip will have positively engaged with over 1000 children with a background far removed from their own.”

All aspects of the trip will be organised by African Adventures and Burnley FC in the Community, including fundraising support.
