On 21 April, 2014 Burnley Football Club were promoted to the Premier League, thereby providing a modern-day football fairytale.
As ever, author Dave Thomas, for more years than he cares to remember, kept a scrapbook and a record of the season.
As that season progressed it became clear that something quite remarkable might be unfolding. As the season neared the very end it was clear that something truly astonishing was indeed about to happen.
His new book is the story of that season, a ‘marker for history,’ said manager Sean Dyche. He had cajoled his team on the pitch and gathered a backroom staff off the pitch that had trained and coached a squad of players that had run for each other, played for each other, inspired each other and then achieved the unlikeliest automatic promotion spot in football’s history.
In a football world awash with money, where even in the Championship there are the haves and the have nots, the Davids and the Goliaths, Burnley’s success story was courageous, magical, romantic and inspirational.
His paperback, out on August 1, is the story of how a proper little football club defied the odds, stayed the course and joined the elite.
