Burnley Football Club is sad to report the passing, aged 79, of one of the club’s young players from the early fifties. Goalkeeper Alan Tattersall, who had also represented England Schoolboys, played a number of games for the Burnley Colts side during the 1952-53 season.
At the end of that campaign the young Clarets won the Burnley Combination Second Division Championship.
One of Alan’s contemporaries in that team was Burnley legend Brian Miller, then just beginning his Turf Moor career, but who went on to win a First Division Championship medal in 1959-60, later becoming the club’s manager.
Alan, from Helmshore in the Rossendale Valley and a long-standing season ticket holder at Turf Moor, was also a big cricket fan and was a popular figure at Rawtenstall Cricket Club.
All of us at Turf Moor extend our sympathies to Alan’s family at this sad time.
RIP Alan Tattersall
