Striker Vokes delighted to extend Turf Moor contract
Burnley striker Sam Vokes is delighted to finally put down roots after extending his Turf Moor stay until 2017.
The Welsh international, who had two years remaining on his present deal, admits he had no hesitation in signing new terms after a blistering start to the campaign that has left the striker just one goal shy of matching his career best season tally of 12.
He told Clarets Player: “It’s good to secure myself here for the next three years and I look forward to it.
“It was an easy decision to make. It’s been a good season so far, so it’s good to settle down here.”
Prior to his Burnley move, Vokes had led a nomadic career in search of regular first team football, including loan spells with several clubs, including Bristol City, Brighton, Norwich and Leeds United.
Vokes, 24, said: “Earlier in my career I had a few loan moves which took me all around the country, but it’s good to sign here for another few years.
“It’s been fantastic for me to settle down and I think this year we’ve proved the potential we’ve had over the last few years and were pushing on at the top end of the table.”
And Vokes insists that confidence is high among the Clarets squad after their impressive first half to the Championship campaign.
He added: “We’ve got a great team at the moment and great players who produce those chances for you, so it’s great for me because we know we are going to create opportunities and score goals.
“In my first year I struggled for a regular spot because we had strikers at the time, like Charlie (Austin), who were doing the job, but I think this year has been my chance and hopefully I’ve taken it.
“I haven’t had that much regular football in the past five or six years, but I have been given a chance and the goals have come with it.
“Improving on every part of my game is going to come with the more games I play and I think the way this squad is going, hopefully we can push on because we’ve got ourselves in a great position.”
