Trippier Hails Backline Barrier

14 February 2014

Kieran Trippier has hailed Burnley’s defensive improvements as integral to where they sit in the Championship.

The Clarets 1-0 win at Bolton on Tuesday was the 12th time this season Burnley have prevented their opponents getting on the score-sheet.

That latest shut-out means Sean Dyche’s side have now equalled their clean sheet tally from last season - with 16 Championship games still to play!

And Trippier believes Burnley’s mean back line have been one of key reasons for their second place standing.

He said: “Clean sheets get you wins and it shows how far we have come!

“The gaffer and the staff have done a lot of work with us as a back five.

“Before he came in you’ve seen how many goals we were conceding. There’s no surprise we’ve got so many clean sheets because I think we are a good defensive unit.”

Burnley head to Bournemouth this weekend looking to extend an eight matches unbeaten run in the league.

With third-placed QPR not playing until Sunday and Derby County, sitting fourth, not in action until midweek, victory could also opened up a six-point gap on their closest challengers.

However, the 23-year-old defender is determined not to get carried away with recent results.

He added: “We know we are second but we are not going to get too ahead of ourselves.

“We will go to Bournemouth, hopefully get the three points there and try to peel away from the teams below us.”
