Sam Sets New Goals

3 February 2014

In-form striker Sam Vokes praised the Clarets’ character following the 3-3 draw with second placed Queens Park Rangers at the weekend.

The Welshman now has a career-best total, having now notched 15 league goals for the season after adding another two to his tally at Loftus Road.

And Vokes, who made it five goals in as many games, feels the squad is in good shape to keep the pressure on the division’s top two.

He said: “To get on the scoresheet as a striker is always good, and to get a double today was even better.

“I thought we were great on Saturday and it showed what type of character this squad has!

“On the attack today were very strong and we really showed what we can do when we express ourselves.”

Vokes struck a second equaliser for Burnley early in the second half, then put them ahead with a tap-in soon after, following good work from strike partner and fellow goalscorer Danny Ings, with who he now shared 37 goals this season.

In doing so, the Clarets became the first away team this season to score more than one goal in a match against Rangers at Loftus Road this season!

And the Clarets could perhaps count themselves unlucky not to come away with all three points, as deadline day loan signing Madibo Maiga equalised for Rangers with just 11 minutes remaining.

Vokes added: “Some teams can come here and sit back, but we came and showed what we have got and it nearly paid off in the end.

“We know how strong their squad is, and it’s good to come down here and show what we can do as well”.

Following the good performance at the weekend, Vokes is now hoping to add to his goal tally this Saturday at home to Millwall, as the team look to finish the season strongly.

He added: “There is still a long way to go and it would be nice to kick on now and hopefully score more goals.

“There is everything to play for and we are a little disappointed with the results lately, but we can take great confidence against a strong QPR side and go on now for the rest of the season.”
