Five Clarets Development Squad and Youth Team players have received call-ups to their national teams for next month’s international fixtures.
Midfielder Cameron Howieson leads the way, with another prestigious call up to the New Zealand senior squad for their friendly against World Cup-bound Japan on Wednesday, March 5.
The 19-year-old Kiwi, who appeared for his country at the London Olympics and featured at last year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey, will have a chance to win his seventh cap at international ‘A’ level.
And he may come up against the likes of Manchester United’s Shinji Kagawa and AC Milan’s Keisuke Honda when the All Whites travel to Tokyo next month.
Meanwhile, Development Squad colleague Luke Conlan has been called up to the Northern Ireland under-21 team ahead of their European Qualifying Match against Italy on the same date.
The defender may line up against Watford’s Cristian Battocchio and Fulham’s Marcello Trotta at Mourneview Park in Lurgan.
Furthermore, as previously reported, Cameron Dummigan and Conor Mitchell have also received international recognition by their country.
The pair have been selected for the Northern Ireland U19 squad for a friendly double-header against Switzerland.
Goalkeeper Mitchell has therefore landed his first call-up at the under-19 level and he will be joined by regular and Burnley last year’s youth team player of the year Dummigan.
Northern Ireland U19s will face Switzerland at the Oval in Belfast on Tuesday, March 4. Two days later, they will take on the Swiss at Stangmore Park in Dungannon.
Finally, striker Khius Metz, pictured below, has been called-up to the Republic of Ireland under-17 squad for two friendlies against Austria.
Both matches will be played in Dublin, on March 4 and 6 respectively.
