Danny: 'Vings' Can Only Get Better

28 February 2014

Danny Ings insists that there is a healthy competition between himself and strike partner Sam Vokes.

Burnley’s twin-pronged international strike force have a whopping 42 goals to their name ahead of the weekend clash with promotion-chasing Derby County at Turf Moor.

England U21 starlet Ings leads the way with 24 goals in all competitions, with Welsh frontman Vokes hot on his tail with 18.

Vokes, in particular, has been in blistering form of late, scoring eight in his last nine for the Clarets.

But Ings insists he is happy for whoever gets the goals, so long as the Clarets’ points tally keeps on ticking along.

He said “Sam has been fantastic this year; I’ve said it in numerous interviews that he’s a top striker and he’s doing very well.

“It might look that there is competition between us, but it’s certainly not the case.

“I thought the brace he got at the weekend was well deserved and I thought it was one of my strongest games personally.

“Off the ball I worked quite hard for the team and hopefully I showed everyone the other side to my game.”

Ings and Vokes both scored in the 3-0 victory at Pride Park earlier this season.

And as they look to add to their tally in the reunion, top-scorer Ings striker admits he is looking forward to the biggest game of the weekend in the Championship.

He added: “I’m over the moon with how things are going, but obviously there is a long way to go.

“Every game is really big in this league and at the weekend there is probably none bigger.

We can get a little bit of breathing space between us and them and I’m sure if we come out like we did against Forest we’ll have a chance.

“We’re taking each game as it comes, working hard as a team and that is why we are doing so well.”

Tickets for the match against the Rams are already selling well and it looks set to be a fantastic atmosphere on the day.
