Defender Ben Mee insists Dyche’s men are raring to go ahead of their Premier League curtain-raiser with Chelsea
Matt Taylor, Lukas Jutkiewicz and Ross Wallace strikes were enough to secure a 3-1 victory over Hellas Verona, as the Clarets showed tremendous character to come from behind after a Lazaros Christodoulopoulos header had given the Serie A side a second-half lead.
And Mee, whose inch-perfect cross teed-up Jutkiewicz for his sixth goal in as many pre-season games, says it was another positive test against a team who finished 10th in their 2013/14 campaign.
He said: “It was really good today, it was a great run out and they’re a good side who finished well in their league last season so it was a good experience going into next week.
“We weren’t happy with the start of the second half, we need to start better than that.
“They got in front straight away but it livened us up and we hit back immediately which is a positive and I thought we played really well from there.
“It was a great move, they might have been celebrating a little bit still but we just carry on and go hard and it paid off.
“I’m trying to put that into my game, more crosses into the box from wide areas so it was nice to get an assist.”
Attentions now turn to the much-anticipated Chelsea clash in eight days time and Mee admits he is relishing what promises to be a special night at Turf Moor after a summer of meticulous preparations.
He added: “We’ve been focusing on it from day one really, from the start of the season and aiming towards it.
“We’ll start looking at it more and more this week in depth and the lads are all looking forward to it, it will be a great occasion.
“It’s been a really good pre-season, we’ve settled really well as a group with the new lads coming in, worked hard and everyone is looking fit.
“I’m sure the atmosphere will be really good here at Turf Moor with it being a night game we are all really looking forward to it!”
