Clarets striker Jason Gilchrist is hopeful that he can push for a first-team spot after he continued his fine form by hitting a brace against Padiham.
The 19-year-old spent the majority of pre-season with the first-team on their trip to Austria and after scoring in that game, he went on to contribute the winning goal against Accrington.
And having spent time with the senior strikers over the summer, Gilchrist is happy to be back amongst the goals for the Development Squad as he looks to progress.
Gilchrist said: “I really enjoyed my time being in and around the first-team and hopefully that can carry on this season.
“I’ve learnt a lot from being with them and I think it’s helped me come on a lot as a player by just being around them.
“Jay Rodriguez is a good example of what can come through the Burnley youth system and I’d love to follow in his footsteps if I can.
“But at the minute I just want to keep playing as much as I can and scoring goals.”
If Gilchrist does continue to fire for Michael Jolley’s side then an opportunity to continue his development on loan may come knocking, but the frontman insists he is content with whatever his boss sees fit.
“If the gaffer thinks that a loan move would benefit my development then I’ll take that on board and I’d be more than happy to do that.”
“I think I’ve been doing well in pre-season, I’ve helped myself to a few goals and I’m just trying to give myself the best chance that I can this season!”
