Clarets Look To Motor At Rolls Royce

28 August 2014

The Youth Team put their unbeaten start to the season on the line when they face Tranmere Rovers on Friday for the second time in less than a week.

The Clarets, who drew with the Wirral-side 2-2 last Saturday in the Youth Alliance, go head-to-head again in the Youth Alliance Cup first round at the Rolls Royce Sports Ground (2pm KO).

Coaches Terry Pashley and Andy Farrell will be delighted with the Clarets start to the 2014/15 Youth Alliance North West League after a solid start in their first three games.

Due to work being underway to the Gawthorpe pitches, the youngsters have been forced to host games elsewhere, with Padiham’s Arbories and Barnoldswick’s Rolls Royce Sports Ground being the main two ports of call.

The Clarets began their season at Padiham in a 2-0 victory against last season’s winners Blackpool. A deep cross by winger Christian Hill evaded everybody and nestled into the top corner. The game suffered a lengthy delay when Blackpool’s striker was down for 40 minutes before being sent to hospital following a head injury. The stoppage didn’t faze the home side as they doubled their advantage through Ntumba Massanka who calmly slotted home his first goal of the season.

The same duo got themselves on the score sheet the following Saturday against Morecambe in an away game which was flipped with the fixture in February. Burnley had to come back from a goal behind that day with two second half goals completed the turnaround and went home with the three points.

Pashley’s men showed their never-say-die spirit yet again when they made the journey over the River Mersey and found themselves two goals down entering the 90th minute. A goal from an Andy Nugent free-kick gave the Clarets hope before Massanka scored his third in as many games to clinch a point against an unbeaten Tranmere side.

Team to face Tranmere: Aghayere, Azam, Nugent, Hobson, Norvock, El-Fitouri, Bianga, Crawford, Jackson, Massanka, Metz.
Subs: O’Neill, Dolling, Dixon, Hill, Wilson
