Kightly: The Best Yet To Come

11 April 2014

Clarets wide man Michael Kightly is looking forward to finishing the season strongly.

The loan signing from Stoke, who provided the assist for Ashley Barnes’ crucial match-winner goal at Oakwell in midweek, concedes that he has found it difficult at times this campaign.

But Kightly feels he is finding his form at the right time as Sean Dyche’s side gear up for Saturday’s huge Turf Moor clash with Middlesbrough.

He said: “I’ve had a couple of good games recently, but I’ve not performed as well as I would have liked since I’ve been here.

“I know that and I’m not one to hide away. I’ve shown better form at other clubs I’ve been at, but hopefully I can carry on the way I’ve been playing in the last couple of games.

“A lot of people talk about confidence players, but I think every player in football is a confidence player.

“When you are feeling confident you play better, it’s as simple as that.

“And when you haven’t (got confidence) you don’t perform as well. I think that’s what I’ve struggled with in some games; not every game, I think I’ve been up and down.

“I don’t think I’ve been terrible, but then again I don’t think I’ve been brilliant, so that’s something I’ll look to work on.”

Burnley currently sit 11 points clear in second place in the Championship, with just five games remaining, making the weekend game a potentially decisive one.

And Kightly is the latest player to cite the spirit in the dressing room as a reason behind the Clarets success so far this season.

He added “It’s a team game, and a squad game.

“Everyone has chipped in, and what we’ve achieved so far this season has not been down to one or two players, it’s been down to everyone.

“It’s not just the players but the staff as well.

“We have all pulled together and worked in the right direction, and that’s why we’re having the success we’re having so far, and long may it continue.”
