Despite Burnley suffering only their second home loss of the season at the weekend, Ben Mee feels the Clarets put in a good performance in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat.
Burnley dominated the contest; registering 27 attempts on goal, however, an impressive performance by Middlesbrough stopper Dimi Konstantopoulos prevented Mee and co finding the back of the net.
And the 24-year-old defender is adamant he and his teammates won’t get too disheartened by the result.
He said: “The result was disappointing but the performance was really good.
“We showed what we can do again and we won’t be too downhearted by it.
“It was one of those days as the saying goes, we did everything but put the ball in the net.
“Their ‘keeper had a good game, unfortunately for us, but we didn’t play badly at all.
“A couple of the lads had some great chances, but it was just one of them days and we won’t be too disappointed.”
Jacob Butterfield’s 51st minute goal for the visitors came against the run of play and meant Sean Dyche’s men left Turf Moor with no points for only the second time this season.
Burnley are now eight points ahead of third placed Derby with four remaining games and Mee is confident a performance of the same level against Blackpool on Friday will be enough to claim the victory.
He added: “The goal was a break away and just one of them things, we could’ve done better with it but again we’re not going to get too down about it.
“We’re still in a fantastic position and we’ll look towards the next game.
“If we put in another performance like that then Blackpool are going to be on the end of a hammering.
“They are fighting for their lives and it’s a local derby so it’s going to be a tough game.
“Hopefully we can perform like we did today and it might go our way this time.”
As well as being pleased by his team’s performance, Mee shared his delight at how the season has gone on a personal level.
He said: “I’ve been pleased with my performances for most of the season.
“It’s been a good learning curve for me throughout the season. It probably has been for a lot of the lads as well.
“Performances have been good and we want to carry that on until the end of the season.”
