Shackell: This One Is Special

13 September 2013

Clarets skipper ready for red-hot Lancashire derby

Jason Shackell insists the Burnley/Blackburn derby is unlike any other game he has played in.

The Clarets skipper opened his goalscoring account for the Clarets in last season’s Ewood Park draw.

And as he gears up for Saturday’s Turf Moor clash, Shackell is hoping to go one better and finish on the winning side.

He said: “I have played in the Norwich / Ipswich derby and that is a fantastic derby, but I’ll be honest, this one takes it to a while new level for me.

“It means so much to both sets of supporters and it means a lot to the players, so this is a good game to play in and I am looking forward to winning one.

“It’s a special game for me, especially as I got my first goal for the club against Blackburn, in front of the Burnley fans.

“This is a game we are really excited about and we want to go out and perform well and get the three points.”

Shackell insists preparations for the game have been no different than any other game.

But he admits the dressing room is well aware of the impact victory would have among Clarets supporters.

He added: “We will prepare exactly the same as every week, but there is an added spice to this and if you can win you create a little bit of history.

“We know what it means to the fans, but it means the same to the lads and you can be held in high regard if you can get the victory, so it’s am important game and my message
to the fans would be to enjoy it.

“Hopefully we can give you something to cheer about and we an all be very happy at the end of the day.”
