International Round-Up

20 November 2013

Cameron Howeison’s hopes of featuring in next summer’s World Cup finals were ended after New Zealand lost the second leg of their Intercontinental Play-Off to Mexico 4-2.

Trailing 5-1 from the first leg, the All Whites failed to overturn the deficit in Wellington.

Attacking Midfielder Howieson (pictured, above), who made his full debut for New Zealand in 2012, did not make the squad for either game.

Striker Sam Vokes helped Wales to extend their unbeaten run to three games in the 1-1 draw with Finland in Cardiff. Vokes, who has scored nine times for the Clarets this season, led the line for the Welsh following the news that head coach Chris Coleman had extended his contract.

Defender Danny Lafferty earned another international cap in Northern Ireland’s 1-0 defeat in Turkey in the friendly in Adana.

Finally, Development Squad defender Luke Conlan made his full debut for the Northern Ireland U21s in Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Cyprus.

Conlan, who was an unused substitute in the 3-0 defeat in Italy three days earlier, played the full 90 minutes as the Irish picked up their first win of the U21 European Championship campaign on home soil.
