Grant In Rush To Secure Deal

28 March 2013

Clarets keeper eager to sort out Turf Moor future

Goalkeeper Lee Grant is in a rush to secure his long-term future at Turf Moor after establishing himself as the club’s number one.

The 30-year-old is one of six first team players currently out of contract in the summer, but believes there are exciting times ahead at the club.

And the Clarets stopper, who has racked up 11 clean sheets this season, insists he is hoping for an early conclusion to contract discussions.

He said: “I’m nice and settled here at the club, I’ve been here for three years now and hopefully it will be sorted out in the right way.

“I’m looking forward to next season as I believe things are heading in the right direction at this football club.

“It feels a little bit like a new club with the new management in place and there is a real freshness to the place.

“Talks are ongoing, and we’re only five or six weeks away from the end of the season so I’m hoping things will be sorted soon.

“It is quite exciting and I can’t wait to be a part of that next season.”

Grant, born in Hemel Hempstead – just a stone’s throw from Watford -  is likely to see some familiar faces when Burnley travel to Vicarage Road on Good Friday.

And while most of his family and friends will be supporting The Hornets at Vicarage Road, Grant hopes to spoil the reunion!

He said: “It’ll be good to go back and see them but hopefully I can get one over on them as well.

“It’s a big game for us and it’d be nice to go down there and put a spanner in the works of Watford’s current run of good form.

“We can take a lot of confidence from how we played against Blackburn, so it is a case of taking that forward now.

“We’ve got to prove that it wasn’t just a case of derby day fever and us getting up for a big game.”

If you can’t make it to Vicarage Road, Clarets Player has full match commentary from 2.45pm, with Phil Bird and a guest summariser. Did you know you can now access ALL commentaries ON THE GO with your Clarets Player subscription, now available on iPhone and Android devices.
