Clarets defender nearing milestone
Fit-again Clarets’ defender Michael Duff is targeting a positive end to the season and believes his injury problems are finally behind him.
Northern Ireland international Duff has missed sixteen league games this season, but is now back in the heart of the Burnley defence as they look to go out on a high in the final eight games, starting at Watford on Good Friday.
The clubs elder statesman is in his ninth season at Turf Moor and could become part of an elite group of players to reach 300 appearances for the club before the end of the current campaign.
The 35-year-old, who is just seven appearances short of that milestone, said: “I’ve had a calf issue for the last five or six weeks but that has all settled now.
“This year hasn’t been too bad injury wise. It’s just the one stint I’ve had out, I’ve had a couple of niggles but that is only natural especially given my age.
“I’m coming to that age now, the Blackburn game took a lot out of me both mentally and physically and I was a little bit sore after that but it is just a case of managing it a little better.
“I don’t know what it is now. The sport science and nutrition side of things has come on so much but everyone seems to be instantly old when they get to 30!”
The Clarets’ face a tough Easter programme, with a tricky home tie against Nottingham Forest on Monday, following the trip to Vicarage Road.
After a tricky spell at Turf Moor, boss Sean Dyche has called on his players to improve their homwe form – a notion that Duff agrees with.
“It is sometimes difficult to manage expectations as when we won five out of six games, all of a sudden we were getting promoted. Then we had a sticky patch and it was all doom and gloom,” he added.
“That is football though, that is why people love it because the emotions are so high and so low.”
Tickets for the Monday game at home to Nottingham Forest are currently on sale from the Turf Moor ticket office and Clarets Store in Charter Walk, priced from £24 (adults).
