Unbeaten run ends for re-shuffled Clarets
The Clarets saw their winning run in the Youth Alliance come to an end with a second defeat in the space of 48 hours.
After going out of the FA Youth Cup to Manchester City on Thursday night, Burnley made nine changes to their starting line-up.
And it showed as the re-shuffled side turned in a poor performance to bring an end to a six-match winning league run.
The Clarets hadn’t played in the Alliance since mid-November and failed to shake off the rust as goalkeeper Conor Mitchell conceded a first-half penalty.
Mitchell almost made amends by saving the spot-kick but couldn’t keep out the rebound and he was beaten again ten minutes into the second half when Fleetwood doubled their lead from long range.
Burnley hit back with a late penalty of their own, converted by Lewis Nuttall following a foul on Khius Metz, but couldn’t force an equaliser as they missed the chance to close in on the leaders.
Burnley: Mitchell, Azzam, Hill, Holt, Whitmore, Galvin, Bianga, Ly, Nuttall, Metz, Massanka. Subs not used: Dummigan, Daly, Lowe, Jakovlevs.
