Sam eyes mouthwatering clash with former club
Sam Vokes hopes to use his time at Brighton to help land the Clarets three points on Saturday.
Both teams are still fighting for the chance to be in the play-offs ahead of Saturday’s crucial game at The Amex.
And Vokes, who spent time on loan at Brighton last season following a similar spell with Burnley, wants to combine his experience and knowledge of Albion with his recent form for club and country.
The Welsh striker, who recently scored the winner in Wales’ friendly against Austria and followed that up with a brace against Stoke City in a behind-closed-doors club game, said: “It was good for me to get out on loan and play some games down at Brighton.
“It was a different type of football to what I’ve been used too. They’re a good team and it’s a good place to play, so I’ll be taking my knowledge into the game.
“It’s a great stadium and a good atmosphere, so hopefully we can go and get the same result as last year.
“I’ve got a bit of confidence from those goals last week so hopefully I can kick on.
“We’ve got a lot of games coming up and Saturday will be another tough one.”
Saturday’s game pits seventh against twelfth; with only five points separating the two - and Vokes is looking to tighten that gap.
“There are a lot of teams around the play-offs and we’re playing a lot of them coming up,” he added.
“It’s been tight up there all season and we’re still in with a huge chance.
“If we can keep pushing especially with a good result at the weekend that’ll certainly help us.
“Hopefully we can go there, put on a good performance and come away with a good result. It’d be a great confidence boost for the lads with this busy period coming up.”
