Clarets' striker boosts Wales goal tally
Sam Vokes returned to Gawthorpe today with another international goal under his belt after helping Wales beat Austria 2-1 in Swansea on Wednesday night.
Vokes came off the bench at the Liberty Stadium to win his 25th-cap.
And the Clarets’ striker powered home a header from a Gareth Bale cross to record his fifth goal for his country.
Turf Moor team-mate Danny Lafferty also had the ball in the net for Northern Ireland but his effort was disallowed as Michael O’Neill’s side was held to a 0-0 draw in Malta.
Lafferty won his third cap and played the full 90 minutes as Northern Ireland drew for the fourth successive game.
Elsewhere on the international front, Burnley winger Dane Richards was an unused substitute as Jamaica earned a valuable point from a 0-0 draw in Mexico as they kicked off their final qualifying stage for the 2014 World Cup finals.
