Good news for big Sam

14 February 2013

Ben Mee also close to training return

Striker Sam Vokes has delivered the Clarets a welcome injury boost with the news that he does not face an extended spell on the sidelines.

Vokes suffered a foot injury after scoring twice in a friendly against Stoke City on Tuesday.

The Wales international limped away from the Britannia Stadium with the help of a crutch but did not require an X-Ray.

And with just bruising to the bone diagnosed, Vokes is battling to be fit to face Middlesbrough at Turf Moor next Tuesday night.

“He has got a sore foot but it’s nothing too drastic,” confirmed manager Sean Dyche.

“It was studs across the foot but we are hoping that settles down quickly.

“It is sore but we can only be hopeful that he is available for Tuesday.”

Ben Mee is also closing in on a return to full training following a knee injury that has sidelined him since the start of December.

And with Saturday’s game against Huddersfield postponed due to the Terriers’ FA Cup commitments, the Clarets will put in an extra shift on the training ground ahead of their crunch mid-week meeting with Boro.

“We want to prepare properly,” added Dyche. “There is still work to be done. A lot of good things have been put into place but we want to put more in and that can only be done when the players are around.

“We value the time we get with them and we want to use it wisely.”
