Midfield men doubtful for Charlton challenge
Boss Sean Dyche may have to test the strength of his midfield resources against Charlton on Saturday as the Clarets look to stop the rot at the Valley.
Dean Marney and Chris McCann are both struggling to make the trip to the capital after picking up knocks in Tuesday night’s home defeat by Huddersfield.
Marney limped off early with a calf problem while McCann was substituted after feeling his hamstring, which could open the door for a return to frontline duty for Marvin Bartley as Burnley look for a first win in seven games.
“It’s touch and go with him (Marney) and Chris McCann, on top of the list that includes Duffo, Ben and Ross,” said Dyche.
“I don’t think they will be quite there for Saturday. Might be, but unlikely.
“They are important players but it gives others an opportunity to stand up and play and play well.
“That’s the design of their development. These things have given Danny Lafferty a chance and Longy has had a chance.
“It’s good for these boys to experience it. Marvin Bartley came on the other night and was chomping at the bit and I was really pleased with his 25 minutes.
“People like that are coming to the fore and saying ‘right, I’ll have a go. I’m ready’. Let’s see if they are.”
