Michael Kightly believes the Clarets have become victims of their own success after his goal saw off a dogged Barnsley side to return to the top of the Championship.
Kightly echoed manager Sean Dyche’s post-match comments that impatience among some supporters made for a nervy atmosphere around Turf Moor, before the Clarets winger struck a magnificent 65th minute winner.
And Kightly insisted the Clarets have every reason to feel upbeat after extending their recent run to just one defeat in 15 games.
He said: “The crowd get a little anxious at times and we’ve sort of become a victim of our own success a little bit.
“Over recent weeks everyone has been getting touchy and thinking we need to go and win games.
“They are expecting us to beat teams like Barnsley, but to be fair to them they dug in and made it hard for us.
“They looked a decent side. I think we had the better chances and thankfully we got the result, but they came here and gave it a good go, so fair play on them.
“The gaffer told us at half time that we needed to take the shackles off and go out there and enjoy our football.
“I think we did that and it showed. We just needed that first goal and then we controlled the game and deserved to win it and if we perform the way we did in the second half, we’ll win more then we’ll lose.
“In the last four games we haven’t been as good as we can be. But we’ve only lost one of those four games and two (games) all season, so it’s good form and we want to keep that going.”
