Burnley legend Gary Parkinson made an emotional return to football with a Boxing Day appearance at Middlesbrough.
The ex-Clarets defender and Wembley winner was given a rapturous welcome by fans of former clubs ‘Boro and Burnley when he appeared pitchside with his family, including wife Deborah, ahead of kick off.
Gary was the special guest of Middlesbrough Chairman Steve Gibson as he appeared at a match for the first time since being left with ‘locked-in syndrome’ following a stroke in 2010.
Clarets fans will always hold a special place in their hearts for Gary, who served the club with distinction and memorably scored the winning goal in the 1994 Play-off Final victory against Stockport County at Wembley.
And everyone at Turf Moor wishes Gary all the very best as he continues to fight back from his illness in 2014.
