Dyche Relishing Derby Day

20 December 2013

Sean Dyche is relishing derby day at Turf Moor as the Clarets host Lancashire rivals Blackpool on Saturday (3pm kick-off) in another crucial Championship clash.

Burnley head into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw at Leicester City last weekend, and Dyche is hoping that a red-hot atmosphere back on home turf will help the Clarets to three points and bragging rights in the Lancashire hotpot.

The Burnley boss said: “There will be that fervour to it of course and the feeling in the stadium with a good atmosphere amongst the people around the game.

“It’s important that we use it wisely to help give us that boost and extra energy to go and perform well.”

The Seasiders, meanwhile, come into the game following three straight defeats and with suspensions to Ricardo Fuller and Angel Martinez and injury problems to several more players.

However, Paul Ince’s side sit just two points adrift of the play-off places and will be looking to get back in the top six after their impressive start to the season.

But with promotion rivals QPR and Leicester going head-to-head in Saturday’s early kick-off, Dyche is urging the Clarets to keep up their impressive nine-month unbeaten home league record.

He said: “It’s a derby game and an important game for both of us for different reasons, we’re making a good show of it at Turf Moor, and away of course, but Turf Moor in particular has become a real tough place to come to and we’re looking to continue that with another good performance and get all three points.”

With games coming thick and fast over the festive period, the Clarets boss insisted that the players have the hunger to maintain the pressure at the top of the table.

Dyche said: “The main focus for us is the performance and those three points, never more so than doing it at home again on Saturday.

“We’ve done it many times this season; and we have got that thirst and desire in the group to keep achieving things.”
