History is made this weekend...
This weekend, we welcome Yeovil Town to Turf Moor in the very first meeting between these two sides.
And to commemorate our first game against the Glovers, here is a potted history about the Somerset club.
Formed in 1895 as Yeovil Casuals, it took Yeovil 108 years to enter the Football League after they won the Football Conference in 2003.
In 2001, the club won the FA Trophy in Gary Johnson’s first year in charge and also began their fairytale journey to the Championship under his stewardship – gaining promotion to League One.
The club then experienced mixed fortunes in League One. After Johnson had departed to Bristol City at the start of the 2005-2006 season he was replaced by Russell Slade.
The Glovers finished in fifth place in 2006-2007 but eventually lost out in the Play-Off final going down 2-0 to Blackpool at Wembley.
They then experienced somewhat of a transitional period as former club captain Terry Skiverton took over from Slade and when they found themselves in the relegation zone at Christmas in the 2011-12 season, it prompted the return of Johnson with Skiverton as assistant.
The change proved a roaring success as Yeovil finished 4th in League One and beat Sheffield United in the play-off semi final before reaching the second tier of English football for the first time at Wembley, winning 2-1 against Brentford.
We welcome Yeovil Town to Turf Moor and hope they enjoy their visit… but not too much!
