Sam Aims For Swinging Sixties

Vokes calls for Clarets to beat last season’s tally

Sam Vokes has set the Clarets a target of three wins from the last five games to surpass last season’s points total.
The Clarets currently have 54 points, eight shy of the top six with just a handful of matches remaining.
But striker Vokes, who is set to retain his place in the starting line-up at Blackpool this weekend, insists that a positive end to the Championship season can send the Clarets into next season with real momentum.
He said: “A big one for us is to probably build on last season’s total.
“We got to 62 points, so if we could go past that mark that would be a step forward for the club and we can build from there.
“We are on that good little run, we’ve been playing well and only lost one in seven, so we look forward to going to Blackpool.”
Vokes has appeared in every league game this season for the Clarets – albeit starting many from the bench.
However, a switch in recent weeks has seen the Welsh international starts alongside 28-goal top scorer Charlie Austin.
Vokes added: “I want to be playing as many games as I can.
“We’ve played a lot of the season with one up front, but we’ve gone to two in the last few weeks and been successful, so it’s important that if we go that way again we build momentum.
“We’ve got five games to go and we have to put all our efforts into that really.”
