Clarets turn tables on Wanderers
The Clarets’ Development Squad came from behind to beat an experienced Wolves side in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Turf Moor on Monday.
Goals from Wes Fletcher, who later missed a penalty, and Joe Jackson (above) turned the tide in Burnley’s favour after going a goal down early in the game.
Development Squad Manager Simon Weatherstone said: “To be fair, in the first 20 minutes we didn’t turn up.
“We were behind the pace of play, but after we had a quick chat we got better as we went on.
“We came out in the second half with a better tempo, created by Luke Daly, and never looked back against well-drilled Wolverhampton Wanderers U21 team.
“There is still a lot to work on, but a 2-1 victory was a good day’s work.”
The Clarets fell behind in the eighth minute with a close range volley.
However, in the 17th minute Fletcher equalised, looping a header over the advancing keeper from centre back Luke O’Neill’s diagonal upfield ball.
Wes Fletcher: On Target
The second half saw Burnley in the ascendancy and after McCartan was brought down by the Wolves keeper Fletcher spurned the chance to put the hosts ahead, seeing his penalty saved.
But two minute later, in the 82nd minute, Burnley did snatch victory as Jackson finished a sweet passing move involving O’Neill and Fletcher.
