Gilchrist on target again with derby winnerIn-form striker Jason Gilchrist struck a late winner as the Clarets continued their impressive run with victory over Youth Alliance leaders Preston.
Gilchrist (above) scored his 12th goal of the season with two minutes to go at Springfields as Burnley made it four wins in a row.
Craig Mawson again took charge of the team with Terry Pashley running first-team affairs.
And the stand-in boss was delighted with a superb team performance as the Clarets put the brakes on North End’s title defence under former Turf Moor favourite Graham Alexander.
Burnley limited the home side to few chances, although Callum Jakovlevs was called on to make a smart save 20 minutes from the end.
The Clarets were denied two penalty claims when Gilchrist looked to be pushed in the box and a shirt pull on Lewis Nuttall was ruled to be right on the edge of the penalty area.
But with time running out they carved out the decisive chance as the predatory Gilchrist seized on hesitation in the North End defence following a clearance from Luke Gallagher, moving the ball from left foot to right before burying a shot in the top corner from 12 yards out.
Burnley from: Jakovlevs, Holt, Hill, Ly (Bianaga 75), Conlan, Gallagher, Howieson, Daly, Gilchrist, Galvin (Jackson 77), Nuttall. Subs: Lowe, Azzam, Eccles.
