Gilchrist Is Hat-Trick Hero

12 October 2012

Blackpool U18s 1 Burnley U18s 6

Jason Gilchrist continued his prolific start to the season as his second successive hat-trick led the Clarets to their biggest win of the campaign.

Gilchrist took his total for the season to nine as Burnley secured back-to-back wins to continue their climb up the Youth Alliance table.

Terry Pashley’s side was in front after just two minutes as Cameron Howieson headed in a corner from Nathan Lowe.

Blackpool levelled mid-way through the first half but Gilchrist then took over to give the visitors a 3-1 half-time lead.

The striker ran onto an Evan Galvin through-ball to restore the advantage and four minutes before the break added his second when he intercepted an attempted clearance to curl the ball home.

Eleven minutes into the second half the Clarets went 4-1 when Lewis Nuttall bent a shot into the top corner and Gilchrist then completed another treble with a superb individual effort with 14 minutes to go.

The striker was given a breather for the final ten minutes but Burnley still had time to cap an outstanding display with a sixth thanks to an own-goal.

Burnley: Mitchell, Dummigan, Holt, Whitmore, Hill, Lowe, Bianga, Galvin (Jackson 64), Howieson, Nuttall (Frost 70), Gilchrist (Massanka 81). Subs: Jackson, Frost, Daly, Massanka, Jakovlevs.
