20 October 2012

Clarets raise funds for FEW at today's game

As part of today’s Celebrating Diversity game, Burnley Football Club is delighted to announce a shirt auction in aid of Furniture for Education Worldwide (FEW).
FEW have been collecting funds at today’s game for their charity, which aims to send surplus and redundant school furniture to some of the most needy children in the world.
Burnley Football Club is proud and delighted to lend our support to this worthy cause.
The shirts worn in today’s game each bear the Celebrating Diversity logo on the back and next week, at an auction will take place to enable supporters to own their favourite.
All proceeds go to FEW, to make a real difference to thousands of children around the globe.
Mr Terry E Burns MBE, Chairman of FEW, said: “We would like to offer a special thanks to the staff and the supporters of Burnley Football Club for their tremendous support to our cause.
“Furniture for Education Worldwide, a national charity, was set up in Burnley in November 2008 and our aims are to supply surplus and redundant school furniture to some of the most needy children in the world.
“FEW have already enabled thousands of children across the world to have better facilities that will help develop their education.
“To date FEW have sent 43 forty foot containers full of school furniture to six different countries across the world including India, the Gambia, Ghana, Pakistan, Kenya and China.
“This furniture was due to be dumped on landfill sites or incinerated.
“We have no shortage of equipment to send and there is certainly no shortage of desperate children across the world, all we are short of is the funds to transport the equipment.”
