Jason Gilchrist plunders third hat-trick of the season

In-form striker Jason Gilchrist bagged his third hat-trick of the season as the Clarets romped to a sixth successive win in the Youth Alliance.

Gilchrist took his tally for the season to 16 as Burnley bounced back from their mid-week League Cup defeat to wrap up victory with five second-half goals – including three in the last ten minutes.

After spurning a clutch of first-half chances, the Clarets went in front when Luke Gallagher fired home from long range four minutes after the break.

Stanley levelled six minutes later through Jenkinson but Gilchrist opened his account to restore Burnley’s advantage when he ran onto a pass from Lewis Nuttall to slot the ball home.

Gilchrist then made it 3-1 in the 83rd-minute when he fired home an angled drive and the prolific marksman then completed his treble as he pounced on a goalkeeping mistake.

Substitute Jamie Frost completed the scoring in stoppage time as Terry Pashley’s side continued their climb up the table.

Burnley: Jakovlevs, Dummigan, Conlan, Holt, Whitmore, Ly, Daly, Gallagher, Nuttall (Frost 65), Galvin (Jackson 70), Gilchrist. Subs: Lowe, Hill, Mitchell.
