Clarets Head To Bury

24 July 2012

Burnley take their pre-season to Gigg Lane tonight

The Clarets travel to Bury tonight (Tuesday) to step up their preparations for the new season.

Both sides kick-started their pre-season friendlies with convincing victories over non-league opposition at the weekend.

The Shakers defeated Radcliffe Borough 6-1, while the Clarets impressed in their 4-1 victory over Altrincham at Moss Lane, with Charlie Austin and Danny Ings getting on the scoresheet.

Boss Eddie Howe fielded different sides in each half and that will continue tonight at Gigg Lane, when goalkeeper Brian Jensen and central defender David Edgar, who both sat out the weekend win, will feature.

However, midfielder Marvin Bartley will again miss out as he recovers from a niggling ankle injury that could curtail his pre-season.

Howe said: "David has only had a week back so we held him back at the weekend, but he will be included.

"There is still plenty to work on with all our players in pre-season and we're looking forward to tonight.

"I expect it will be a harder game than Saturday because Bury are a very good side

"But we're looking for another step up in fitness levels and performance.

"The lads have done an awful lot of work since coming back for pre-season. We've crammed a lot in and if we apply ourselves the right way, the rest will take care of itself."

Kick off at Gigg Lane is 7.45pm and admission for this game is £10 (adults) and £5 (concessions).

NB: Home supporters will use the Main Stand, with away supporters in the South Stand.
