The Clarets ran out 4-2 winners in a six-goal thriller against Sheffield Wednesday at their Middlewood Road training ground, in the Professional Development League.

The Clarets took the lead through Dan Agyei with 14 minutes played, before Jack Stobbs replied from the spot for Wednesday.

However, Burnley regained the lead less than a minute later, again through Agyei.

And Jon Pepper's side added a third just ten minutes into the second half through Tinashe Chakwana.

The visitors were cruising and got a fourth through Olatunde Bayode.

Fraser Preston pulled a goal back late on for the hosts, but the Clarets held on for another three points.

Burnley started brightest between the two sides, and got the opening goal.

Agyei intercepted Joe Wildsmith's goal-kick, before breaking forward and firing a low shot into the bottom corner.

The home side looked to reply shortly after, as Stobbs blazed an effort just wide of the post.

However, Wednesday were awarded a penalty moments later, after Oliver Younger collided with Stobbs inside the area.

The winger stepped up and slammed the ball home from the spot just before the break.

Although, the scores were not level for long, as Agyei latched onto a long ball, before prodding the home past Wildsmith.

And just ten minutes into the second half, the Clarets added a third of the afternoon.

Dwight McNeil whipped in a fine ball for Chawkana to poke home past a stranded Wildsmith.

The Yorkshire side came close to closing the deficit with 20 minutes to go, as Preslav Borukov's close range strike rattled off the bar.

However, Burnley grabbed a fourth moments later, as Bayode found time and space outside the box, before drilling home into the bottom corner.

But with 10 minutes to go, Preston rose highest at the back post and nodded home past Adam Legzdins to set up a nervy finale to the final moments of the match.

Despite Wednesday's best efforts of clawing a couple of late goals, the Burnley defence stood strong and kept the Yorkshire side at bay.
