Young Clarets bounce back from defeat with victory at Barnfield Training Centre.

8 September 2018

The U18s came from behind to secure their fourth win of the season at home to Ipswich Town.

Danny Cadamarteri's side, who fell to their first defeat of the campaign last weekend at Watford, fell behind with five minutes gone, before Matty Rain equalised for the Clarets shortly after.

Burnley then took the lead through Kai Smith just before the break, before the visitors again pulled the score level, this time from the penalty spot.

The Clarets were not stopping there though and snatched the winner through Mitch George on the hour mark.

Town started the game lively and came close to taking the lead through Kian Ronan, the midfielder arriving late at the back post, before glancing the ball inches wide.

Ipswich then struck minutes later as Zak Brown finished from close range, after following up Tyreece Simpson’s initial effort.

The lead didn’t last long, however, as Rain found time and space out wide, before darting forward and unleashing a strike from 30 yards into the bottom corner.

The hosts then came close to taking the lead, as Joe Conn-Clarke curled an effort onto the crossbar from just outside the box.

Burnley finally went ahead before the break, Smith picking up the ball inside the area before coolly slotting home into the far corner.

Just five minutes into the second half, Town’s Thomas Hughes was sent off for a second bookable offence after a late challenge on Kian Yari.

The Clarets looked to take advantage of having the extra-man, however a counter-attack from the visitors shortly after saw Richard Taylor sent off for a challenge on Brown inside the box.

And the Town striker stepped up-to the exact further punishment spot be slamming home the resulting spot kick.

However, minutes later Burnley regained the lead, as George tapped the ball in from close range.

And that strike turned out to be the winner as the Clarets secured their fourth win in five games.
